Severance Hospital
Information
In May 2005, the new Severance Hospital was completed, marking 120 years since the founding of Gwanghyewon, Korea’s first modern hospital, and 100 years since the establishment of Severance Hospital. This project represents a major milestone in the history of Korean healthcare, symbolizing both tradition and innovation in medical architecture.
The new Severance Hospital comprises four main divisions — Outpatient Clinics, Inpatient Wards, Central Medical Facilities, and Convenience & Educational Facilities. The Outpatient Department houses 118 consultation rooms organized into five specialized centers (Digestive Disease Center, Neuroscience Center, Emergency Care Center, Diabetes Center, and Organ Transplant Center) and two specialty clinics (Cancer Clinic and Allergy & Asthma Clinic), along with 17 clinical departments, located between the 3rd and 6th floors of the main building.
The Inpatient Wards, located on the 5th and 8th through 20th floors, accommodate a total of 1,004 beds, including 897 general beds, making it one of the largest hospital facilities in Korea. Through its scale and integrated medical system, the new Severance Hospital has established itself as a benchmark for advanced healthcare facilities in Asia.
